About

Toward a meaningful life, without waiting to feel perfect.

At Scully Psychotherapy PLLC, I help adults who feel stuck in cycles of anxiety, overthinking, avoidance, perfectionism, and self-criticism. When your mind is constantly trying to solve problems, eliminate uncertainty, or figure out how to feel better, it can become difficult to focus on what matters most in your life. My approach to therapy goes beyond simply understanding why you feel the way you do. I work collaboratively with clients to recognize patterns that keep them stuck, develop a different relationship with difficult thoughts and emotions, and make meaningful changes in how they respond to life's challenges. My clinical approach draws from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), is informed by Relational Frame Theory (RFT), and incorporates Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) when appropriate. CBT helps identify and address patterns of thinking and behavior that contribute to emotional distress. ACT emphasizes psychological flexibility- the ability to make room for difficult internal experiences while taking action guided by your values. RFT informs my understanding of how language, beliefs, and self-stories shape behavior. ERP offers a structured, evidence-based approach for addressing obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and related patterns of compulsive behavior and avoidance. Rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all approach, I tailor therapy to your needs, goals, and circumstances. This may involve examining unhelpful patterns, experimenting with new ways of responding, practicing greater willingness to experience discomfort, or taking concrete steps toward the things that matter to you. I believe meaningful change does not require you to eliminate every uncomfortable thought, resolve every uncertainty, or feel completely ready before moving forward. Therapy can help you build the flexibility to respond differently, engage with difficult experiences, and take steps toward the relationships, activities, and life you want to cultivate. My goal is to help you move beyond getting stuck in your mind and toward living a more meaningful, engaged life.
